About The International Liver CongressTM 2019

The International Liver CongressTM is a high calibre and multi-disciplinary scientific congress attracting around 10,000 delegates annually. The event fosters advances in hepatology (liver research) and unveils new and exciting data on the liver. The 2019 congress will be EASL’s 54rd annual meeting.

Media Registration

I am a journalist and I want to cover the Congress for my publication. Can I register online before the event?

Yes. Conference registration fees will be waived for members of the working press who wish to attend to cover the ILC. EASL defines “working press” as reporters, writers, editors, publishers, photographers, videographers, or webmasters who work for or produce publications, news services, broadcast outlets, or news websites that are issued regularly and primarily for the dissemination of news, and who will be attending the event for news reporting purposes.

As a blogger, what evidence do I need to provide to register as a media representative?

Please send the complete URL of three relevant hepatology/liver disease/health blog posts you have written in 2016/2017/2018 to the ILC Press Office with proof that you have an online following and that you have been re-blogged or published by others or cited on other blog sites.

Once your credentials have been approved by the ILC Press Office, you will receive an email containing log-in details to access the online registration platform. This will enable you to complete your registration, book accommodation and sign up to early morning workshops.

Only registered media representatives will be permitted to access the media areas.

Can I register on-site?

Yes. If you have not registered online prior to arrival in Paris, you will need to register on-site at The International Liver CongressTM 2019 registration desk. Proof of media accreditation will be required together with a valid passport or ID-card.

Media registration in advance is strongly recommended.

Once credentials are approved by the ILC Press Office, will I be registered to attend the Congress?

Once your credentials have been approved by the ILC Press Office, you will receive an email containing log-in details to access the online registration platform. This will enable you to complete your registration, book accommodation and sign up to the early morning workshops.

Where can I collect my press badge?

Accredited journalists must collect their press badge onsite from the registration desk. The badge will permit admission to the Congress and the media areas. You will be asked to provide proof to show that you are the person indicated on the badge, so please ensure that you have your ID card or passport on hand.

Does EASL offer any grants or sponsorship opportunities for media to attend The International Liver CongressTM 2019?

At the moment, EASL does not offer grants or sponsorship opportunities to media.

EASL welcomes the interest of the media in matters relating to hepatology. Registration to The International Liver Congress™ 2019 is open and free of charge to official representatives of print, broadcast and electronic media.

Can I cover the Press Conferences live? Is there an embargo policy on media coverage?

Yes, there is. The embargo policy states that members of the media are required to respect the times and dates of the embargoes, as stated on the Embargo Policy section of the ILC 2019 website.

Accommodation

Where can I find information about hotel availability and rates?

Reduced rates have been negotiated for The International Liver CongressTM 2019 participants. Full details can be found on the hotel Accommodation section of the ILC 2019 website.

How can I book my room and should I pay in advance?

Once your credentials have been approved you will receive an email containing log-in details to access the online registration platform. This will enable you to complete your registration, book accommodation and sign up to early morning workshops. Full payment is requested to confirm the hotel booking. As soon as hotel booking is confirmed and the requested payment is received, a confirmation will be sent to you by email.

Can I book a hotel room without registering for the Congress?

To receive the negotiated reduced rates, hotel bookings should be made through the ILC 2019 registration portal.

Where will the Press Office be located?

The Press Office will be located within the congress center. More info for the exact location will be posted here on due time.

How can I access official Congress media materials?

Printed media materials will be made available to registered journalists in the ILC Press Office at The International Liver CongressTM 2019. PDF versions will be available online in the Media Kit available on the ILC website.

Details will be provided by the ILC 2019 Press Office to registered media.

What language will press materials be available in?

The official language of The International Liver CongressTM is English. All documents and presentations will be provided in English. Simultaneous translation will not be provided.

Will interview rooms be available?

Yes, interview rooms will be available for use by the media.

Media representatives who wish to arrange interviews with EASL spokespersons or investigators whose abstracts are selected for presentation at the official Press Conference should contact the ILC Press Office staff to arrange interviews in advance.

What will be available to journalists in the Press Office?

Laptop/cellphone charging stations, and printing facilities will be available to members of the media at the ILC Press Office.

Refreshments will also be provided free of charge.

Who do I contact if I have a query onsite?

Press Office staff will be available throughout the Congress. Press Office staff will be responsible for badge-checking, the general upkeep of the room and answering press enquiries. You may also contact the ILC Press Office via email.

How can I access the official Congress media materials if I am unable to attend the Congress?

Official media materials will be made available in the Media Kit available the week of the ILC 2019 10-14 April.  Details will be provided to registered media representatives.

Ask The Experts

What is ‘Ask The Experts’? When will this be made available?

During the International Liver CongressTM 2019 registered media will be able to request the opportunity to interview EASL Governing Board members, EASL Scientific Committee members and other key opinion leaders in hepatology. This option will be made available in April 2019. Please contact the ILC Press Office via email if you are interested in speaking with an expert.

Video, photography and AV equipment

Are there any restrictions on photography/digital audio/video recording?

Filming, photography and audio recordings are allowed at The International Liver CongressTM 2019, but permission from the ILC Press Office must be given in advance.

The ILC Press Office will approve requests on a case-by-case basis.
Successful applicants will receive a press pass and confirmation letter with a scheduled time and location. Without this confirmation letter, filming/photographing/recording will only be permitted in areas that do not require approval.

Intellectual property copyrights must be respected. The filming or photography of posters/scientific sessions may not be conducted without prior permission from the authorised speaker/moderator.

The following areas do not require permission for filming, taking photographs or making an audio recording:

  • Industry interview rooms
  • EASL press office
  • EASL and industry press conference rooms
  • Outside the main entrance

Permission is needed for filming, photography, or audio recording in the following areas:

  • Scientific sessions
  • Industry-organised satellite sessions
  • Registration area

Filming in any other part of the Congress venue is strictly prohibited.
Any film/photo/recording shall only be used for information and communication purposes and must mention the source of the material.

Artificial light cannot be used during presentations. Flash photography at scientific presentations and plenary sessions are not allowed. EASL staff may interrupt any disruptive or hazardous filming.

Media attendees

Can I receive a list of media attendees at the Congress or previous attendee lists?

EASL does not share media lists externally.
